Tell us what makes you hometown proud:
We are extremely proud that a small city like Fredericton with a population of 50 000 people have developed so many amazing athletes who have moved on to play at the highest level of their particular sport. Just to name a few, Jake Thomas plays in the Canadian Football League for Winnipeg. Roly McLenahan carried the torch for Canada Games and the torch was renamed the Roly McLenahan torch in 1985. Matt Stairs played in the MLB. Several NHL hockey players grew up in Fredericton including, Greg Malone, Danny Grant, Jake Allen, Buster Harvey and Willie O’Ree. Buster Harvey and Danny Grant have a rink built in their honour. Willie O’Ree also has a rink built in his honour. The Willie O’Ree rink is on the northside of Fredericton and we are especially proud because of the incredible history Willie made by being the first black player to ever play in the NHL.
